A recent high school graduate, Mason Bird was not only actively involved in school but also in his local community. As a student, Mason Bird was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a spot on the honor roll all four years. When not studying, Mason Bird volunteered his time to a number of charitable organizations, including Miracle Hill Children’s Home, the Special Olympics, and Operation Christmas Child.
As one of the children’s ministry programs of the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief organization, Operation Christmas Child is preparing for National Collection Week, which is scheduled for Nov. 18-25, 2013. During this week, donors begin packing shoeboxes full of gifts to be delivered to children in need around the world. While some fill the shoeboxes with basic items such as toys, school supplies, or other necessities, others include personal items such as hand-made necklaces or a brief note.
Established in 1993, Operation Christmas Child has amassed more than 100 million shoeboxes for children who are underprivileged around the globe. After the shoeboxes have been packed, they are delivered to thousands of drop-off locations nationwide. The shoeboxes are then delivered to children in more than 130 countries worldwide.
